We have now retired and closed the business on 3rd June 2023

This was our story and what we did up until then…. Karen’s Cakes first opened up shop in 1987 in Waltham Abbey, Essex. Ever since those doors first opened Karen Burton has been baking and decorating cakes for special occasions.  In 2017 we were excited to be celebrating our 30th anniversary in our studio’s current home of Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire!

Why We Not Longer Sell Cake Decorating Supplies

In the aftermath of Covid-19 we have decided to say goodbye to the cake decorating supplies we stocked and sold to home cake decorators. We are now concentrating on baking and decorating cakes to order with the shop transformed into a beautiful display studio. This has allowed us to concentrate on what we are really good at, making fabulous cakes for all occasions.

Our mission statement is and always has been  – to bake and decorate unashamedly stylish, deliciously moreish cakes for all occasions.

“Cake decorating has been my passion for well over 40 years!” says Karen, “and I think it’s fair to say that In this time I have built up a wealth of knowledge and experience that I use every day to make Karen’s Cakes the very best there is! My craft is my life and I have drawn many people into that world over the years!

I am also proud to say that  I was a regular expert contributor to the international and most successful part-work magazine to date, ‘Cake Decorating’ as well as the sister publication ‘Something Sweet’.

We have a portfolio of beautiful contemporary designs displayed on this site from cupcakes to wedding cakes, all ready for you to personalise and order either online or by phone.

If you can’t find something that suits your special occasion on this site then contact us to see what we can come up with.

All of our cakes are baked and decorated at our bakery too tried and tested fool proof recipes.  These recipes have excellent keeping and cutting qualities. For more information about this, please visit our FAQ page.

We believe that every cake we bake and decorate should taste as good as it looks. We also offer gluten/wheat free cakes. Please see our FAQ’s for more details.
