Baking cakes that taste of home!

Baking is, for me, a ‘Taste of home!’

 

Truthfully, at heart I’m a baker! It’s the reason I got into cake decorating in the first place. The memories of baking at home with my mum are fond ones and the pleasure of eating the results hard wired into my DNA! When I recall those flavours in my mind, it reminds me of family and home and the sense of comfort it brings, is almost palpable. My test bakes  of the last few weeks truly ‘Taste of home!’

My baking journey took me down the path of decorated cakes and I am officially (as declared in a previous blog post) a ‘Cake Decorating Addict!’

But, deep down I’ve always carried a longing to bake more and decorate less despite my love for the craft of my profession. My mantra of ‘taste as good as it looks’ is always at the very heart of my business!

 

My inspiration
Continental bakeries leave me drooling! On holidays I study their wares with both envy and ore, wishing I was in a position to take my own business down that path.

In a world that is rapidly changing for us all, businesses also need to find a way through. For many a change of direction is the only way forward. So it would seem, the opportunity has called and now is the right time to take that path I’ve longed for.

 

A sad goodbye
Sadly this means Karen’s Cakes will be saying goodbye to the cake decorating supplies side of the business. I have made many friends over the years and been witness to the making of some fabulous cake creations. I’ve seen many home business come and go. And I’ve watched some customers go onto become fabulous and talented cake decorators, enjoying the craft to the full.

I thank all of those customers for their patronage over the years, it’s been a pleasure to serve you. And although I will be sad to see the end of this chapter, the time is now right for Karen’s Cakes to leave it behind.

 

So what’s next?
Using the baking talents learnt from my mum and her recipes as inspiration, coupled with my training and experience within the baking industry. This includes a stint at ‘Dunns of Crouch End’ the bakery that recently featured in the hit BBC TV show, Killing Eve.

 

Exciting news!!!

I am very excited to be introducing a new range of traditional bakes and layer cakes, artisan rock cakes, iced cookies, specialty cupcakes and treat boxes.

Everyone freshly baked, ready to enjoy at home, on a picnic or as a gift, even frozen for later.

 

The first steps

Initially these will be available to order via this website for contactless collection from the shop on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

Over the next weeks and months we will gradually expand the range of ‘weekend bakes’ available.

To order visit the ‘Last Minute’ section on our website and click on the ‘weekend bakes and treats’ icon. There will also be details and updates of our latest tasty treats on our website and social media.

 

Decorated cakes
There is no big change here! Karen’s Cakes celebration cakes and cupcakes will still be available to order and we are expanding the design range all the time.

For now to ensure you are given the best service and finish product as possible, the choice will be limited to the designs available on our website. All orders can be placed on this site.

 

Opening Hours
Our working week will now be Wednesday to Friday 9.30am to 5pm and Saturday 9.30am to 1pm.

This will allow a gradual reopening of the businesses in a safe manor for everyone, whilst keeping within the governments guide lines. We will be operating a ‘locked door policy for cake contactless cake collections only, on an appointment basis’.

 

 

So there you have it!

The next chapter of our story begins! I am finally getting the chance to fulfil a long held baking dream! And I am really looking forward to getting back to the new ‘normal’ and producing, as before, beautiful celebration cakes to order but with the addition of our new Artisan cakes range.
