How I Design Wedding Cakes
As a cake designer and for the purpose of this particular blog post, wedding cakes, I get a great deal of pleasure seeing the vision in my head come to life. For me the process of imaging new designs for Karen’s Cakes wedding cake collections is based on many years of experience, together with the thought that I am very likely to repeat the design in some shape or form multiple times. Each time as special as the last! I love that fact! It gives me a buzz repeating things over and over again, it just does! It’s the part of the job I most enjoy!
For me it’s not about the trying something new. I have enough skills and experience under my belt that enables me to design cakes that I know will be perfect every time. I do not feel the need to challenge myself with the unknown! I’m happy to leave that to the new trail blazers of the cake decorating world. I’ve had my days of breaking new ground, it’s my time to bask in my knowledge and experience.
My hard-earned skill set is based on consistent results, with a firm hand on budget whilst still creating something that will be the centre piece at any occasion no matter the size.
I often daydream about what would be the perfect cake to complement a particular style, theme or colour scheme. Sometimes that may be triggered by seeing a beautiful picture of a couple on their wedding day or a venue setup ready for the guest to arrive as I scroll through my Instagram feed. It may be the detail on a dress I’ve seen, even the feelings the words of a song I’m listening to evoke. I take inspiration from everywhere and cake designs run through my head like scenes from old moves.
Once my vision is a reality, I take pictures and use these on my website and social media. They are like my babies, I’m proud and want to share my latest creation with, well basically, the world!
Having the pre-designed collection of wedding cake designs that are displayed within this website, means rather than a hope and a vision of a potential design, it’s there in front of you in all its glorious beauty! And just like when a bride chooses her dress, or even her partner for that matter, you just know when ‘it’s the one’! Ok, you may want to tweak it a little…..that’s the cake not partner, ha,ha!
Of course those little tweaks are often requested and fulfilled! It may be the colour of the flowers, to add monograms or one bit from one, two or even three design all combined together. In fact, one of my designs is called ‘Two become one’ for that very reason!
Every cake I make is always a just that bit unique. And I will make you a promise, it will always be the very best I can make, absolutely no comprise allowed!
And that’s my gift to you and the world of cake designing! Perfect every time!
